Our Mission

It is the mission of this practice to provide the highest quality eye and vision care to our patients in a caring, efficient and cost effective manner.

Our Services

As a full service optometry practice, we offer our patients total optometric care, including routine eye examinations, eyeglasses, contact lens care, medical eye care, refractive surgery, and management of ocular disease.

Our contact lens services cover a full range of lens options, including both rigid and soft contact lenses, traditional and disposable lenses for persons with and without astigmatism, post-surgical contact lens care, and bifocal contact lenses.

Our medical eye care services include the diagnosis and treatment of eye and eyelid infections and pink eye, the removal of foreign bodies from the eye, refractive surgery pre-and post-operative services, and the treatment of eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.

Appointments

Appointments are encouraged for examinations, follow-up visits, first time contact lens deliveries, and special testing procedures. While it is often possible to see patients without appointments, it is usually not without a wait of some length, as we are obligated to care for our appointed patients first.

On occasion one of our doctors will be called out during office hours. When this occurs, we notify and re-appoint patients scheduled during that time. We request that patients do the same for us by notifying us at least 24 hours in advance when they will be unable to keep an appointment. As it is our policy not to "overbook" patients, this allows us to schedule other patients in a more timely manner.

Eye Examinations

We know your vision is important to you; it’s important to us. When you come for your appointment, we try to schedule ample time for your visit so that you will not feel rushed.

Our office provides complete eye care for both adults and children. During your eye examination, we check your eyes inside and out for eye disorders and diseases. Your visual skills and abilities are carefully evaluated and appropriate treatment prescribed.

We are prepared to satisfy your eye care needs, and will care for you with the most modern, up to date technology.

Contact Lenses

Our professionals can help you with contact lenses that are just right for you. We are experts in fitting contact lenses and can handle the most specialized needs. Whether rigid or soft lenses, we are experienced in handling the most challenging prescriptions.

If you suffer from allergies, then you know they can be particularly annoying to contact lens wearers. In the past, many people had to quit wearing their lenses during the allergy season. However, new lens materials and allergy medications have made it possible for many of these people to eliminate the burning, itchy eyes associated with allergies. Prescription allergy medications are amazingly effective and safe even in children as young as three. Let us know when you come in for your appointment if you have special allergy needs and we will be happy to help you.

Optical Dispensing

Our in-house lab will make your glasses using the latest lens processing technology. We can also help you maintain your eyeglasses and repair them should they become broken or damaged.

We are able to tint, coat, polish and edge spectacle lenses, and can provide you with any frame or lens design.

Our highly qualified opticians are able to adjust and fit your glasses to you for maximum comfort and vision.

Children’s Vision

The development of a child’s eyes is of great importance and can have lasting effects on learning and socialization. Their eyes are in continual use in the classroom and at play, so when vision is not functioning correctly, the learning process and participation in activities can suffer. Your child then has to work harder, which leads to eyestrain problems such as headaches, and fatigue.

Because vision changes can occur without you or your child noticing them, your child should visit the optometrist at least every two years. School vision screening or your pediatrician’s exam is not sufficient and is not a substitute for a thorough eye examination. Our office can care for your child’s eye health needs and can prescribe appropriate treatment when necessary, whether it's a pair of eyeglasses, contact lenses or even vision therapy.

Eye Infections, Eye Injuries, Dry Eyes

Our office provides emergency services for eye infections and injuries. Please call us at 915-544-6700 or 915-587-9400, 24 hours a day. Our staff will work with you to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. State of the art microscopes allow us to examine the front surface of the eye and facial areas around the eye for infection or injury. After assessing the extent of the injury or infection, a treatment plan will be formulated and explained to you. Treatment may include medications and supportive care. Follow-up visits to monitor your recovery will be scheduled as needed.

Symptoms of dry eyes include scratchiness, burning, mild redness and a gritty feeling in the eyes. Oral medications, reading, computer tasks and dry environments may aggravate marginally dry eyes. Dry eyes can be diagnosed by using special dyes to assess tear consistency, evaluation of the amount of tears on the front of the eye, and from a review of your symptoms. Treatment may include artificial tears, eye drops, and punctal plugs inserted in the tear drainage canals.

Eye Diseases: Cataracts, Glaucoma, Diabetes

Cataracts occur when the natural lens in the eye gradually becomes clouded, often as a result of the natural aging process. When opacities develop in the lens and the lens gets too hazy, vision will be impaired. Our office can diagnose and manage cataracts. When cataracts affect the vision to the extent that you cannot read or see distant objects comfortably, we will recommend cataract surgery. Our office co-manages with cataract specialists that are proven experts in the field of cataract surgery. Cataract surgery can provide you with a bright new world of vision.

Glaucoma gradually destroys the optic nerve tissue in the back of the eye. The greatest danger of glaucoma stems from the fact that the disease is painless and without obvious symptoms until significant damage has occurred. The most common cause is from pressure being too high inside the eye, but vascular disease and other diseases can also cause glaucoma. We monitor for glaucoma during routine eye examinations. Tests include checking the pressure of the eye, screening for peripheral vision defects and analyzing the appearance of the optic nerve. If you are diagnosed with glaucoma, we typically prescribe medications that lower the eye pressure. Most forms of glaucoma are successfully treated with eye drops. Laser treatments and eye surgery are secondary treatments that offer alternative ways to treat more advanced glaucoma.

Diabetic patients should have an eye examination each year. Laser treatments have proven to slow the progression of retinal eye disease for many patients. Diabetes often stimulates the irregular growth of new blood vessels in the back of the eye, which ultimately leak and damage the retina. If this condition is discovered early, laser treatment can destroy these vessels. We have the latest instruments used to detect changes in the back of the eye. If we discover advancing diabetic eye disease that can be treated or needs further evaluation, we will refer you for consultation and further testing to a board certified retinal specialist.

Vision Therapy

Seeing clearly is not enough. For many people, reading and hand-eye coordination tasks can be very difficult. The act of sight not only includes ones eyes, but it also includes the neurological activity that processes the visual information. Throwing a ball or skiing down a hill, is a learned activity; to do either well takes practice. Those who do it best are those who started learning at the earliest age. Sight plays an important role in the learning of these activities. Sight is the steering mechanism; it is the main activity that provides feedback regarding what really is happening. We work with occupational therapists within the school districts to develop vision therapy programs to help individuals learn how to process visual information and develop better hand-eye coordination skills.

Surgery Co-Management

Our office makes available many surgical services including cataract surgery, laser retinal surgery, laser vision correction and strabismic(crossed-eye) surgery. We offer this in conjunction with local hospitals and eye surgeons.
Additionally, we have working arrangements established with other specialized eye care doctors to manage such things as retinal detachments, retinal tears and hemorrhages(bleeding).

Laser Vision Correction

More and more people with vision difficulties are wanting to know about LASIK or CK and whether it is right for them. Dr. Goff, Dr. Ken Falknor, and one of our patient care coordinators, Bertha, have had this procedure done. Maria, one of our eyewear specialists, had CK done. Why not ask them how their procedure went? Here is a brief description of the procedure:

A thin flap is made on the surface of the cornea and gently folded back. An Excimer Laser is used to reshape the underlying tissue (this is much like a contact lens, which corrects vision by forming a new shape on the cornea). The flap is then put back in place, acting like a natural bandage. The healing process is quick with virtually no discomfort.

People will often say that they did not feel anything, and could see well the very first day. Most people have improved vision in 24-48 hours. but it must be noted that each person will heal at a different rate. Vision, although greatly improved immediately after surgery, often continues to improve for some weeks, even months.

LASIK is not for everyone. People's eyes are different, so even though you may know someone who has had LASIK, it may not be the best course of treatment for you. If you are interested in LASIK, our staff can answer all your questions and concerns.

After the procedure, we carefully monitor your eyes to insure proper healing in order to help you achieve the best possible results.

We do not perform Lasik surgeries at our office; however, our doctors are partners in New Vision Laser Center, where Lasik is performed. Our doctors provide pre- and post-operative care and would be present during your surgery at New Vision Laser Center. Please visit their website for more information.

Fees

The fees charged by us are based on a number of factors, including the cost of running the office, the complexity of the case, specialized training required for case management, and the seriousness of the patient's condition. While it is inevitable that our fees will escalate, we strive to hold increases to a minimum by operating the office in the most efficient manner possible.

The fees charged by us for materials such as eyeglasses and contact lenses are based on the cost of acquiring these materials as well as local market conditions. Because we do no media advertising, we keep our overhead cost to a minimum.

Consequently, our fees for materials are usually lower than those establishments that have to rely on media advertising. We provide only the finest quality materials for our patients, the same as we would want for ourselves. All materials provided by us are fully guaranteed against manufacturing defects. In addition, routine maintenance of all eyeglasses purchased at our office is provided at no cost for as long as you own them. This includes periodic adjustments, cleanings, and replacement of nosepads, eyewire and temple screws, and temple covers.

Insurance

We are providers for numerous medical and vision care insurances. With the ever changing face of third party care in our society today, it is increasingly more difficult for us to keep up with these changes as they occur. Accordingly, we must ask our patients to check their insurance coverages prior to each visit to the office. While we are happy to complete and mail insurance forms for our patients, it must be understood that each patient is responsible for the payment of all deductibles and co-payments, as well as for any services not covered under insurance.

Payment For Services

Our office accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Payment is expected for services at the time they are rendered. When insurance coverage is confirmed, the anticipated co-payment or deductible is payable at the time of the visit. A deposit of one half is required whenever glasses or contacts lenses are ordered, with the balance due upon delivery.

Prescription Releases

It is the policy of the office to routinely release prescriptions for both eyeglasses and contact lenses, providing that proper procedures are followed:

CONTACT LENSES: Prescriptions will be issued for replacement lenses. During the initial contact lens fitting period, we provide the contact lenses for the patient. This is required in order that we may properly evaluate the performance of the lenses. In addition, all recommended follow-up evaluations must be performed before a prescription is issued. Yearly visits to check the performance of the contact lenses are required in order for us to issue updated lens prescriptions. Any examinations required because of difficulties with lenses provided by another supplier will be performed at the expense of the patient. Any reorders of lenses, for whatever reason, are to be handled between the patient and the lens supplier.

EYEGLASSES: It is routine to issue a prescription at any time a patient may request, even if the prescription is out of date. We assume no responsibility, however, for any prescription that is filled more than 12 months after the date of the examination.
